That seems like a interesting concept..I have a rack of test tunes that I use for propagating plants from leaves.. you just add water and stick a leaf in.
I currently have 3 plants in there

That's a great way to tell when they are ready for soil! Did you ever use rooting hormone?
I have used Clone-X before when I made a aerophonic cloning station.. I was making 24 plants at a time with that. I'm not a fan of the powders though. The Clone-X was a liquid.. I just a add to the water.. roots grow in 2 days.
