Homemade Paprika: Part Two 🫑

Happy summer to everyone...

The sun is shining brightly, and my bell pepper plants keep growing—they love the heat, which is perfect. These vegetables look healthy, with a deep green color and a smooth, glossy texture.

I feel happy, and even though I haven’t harvested yet, everything is growing faster than expected. I think that soon I’ll be able to season my food with these vegetables, which are free of any fertilizers or pesticides, because I use compost.

This mixture really helps nourish the soil. One of its components is coffee and charcoal pieces, which help maintain the soil’s pH and keep unwanted visitors away.

I also had to place a branch as a stake since the weight of the peppers was bending the stem, and it’s necessary to support the plant so the fruit is comfortable and doesn’t suffer.

This is a very important practice for me and my family—planting and growing our own vegetables, and perhaps later fruits and vegetables that are so necessary for our daily diet.

As you can see, the plants have many flowers and fruits that are growing rapidly. The care remains the same: avoiding overwatering and avoiding wetting the leaves to prevent fungus, so it’s worth checking each leaf to prevent pests that could endanger our plant.

I love doing research, and I’m fascinated by the history of this vegetable. I’m particularly intrigued by its self-pollination—since its flowers are hermaphroditic, this means it can produce fruit on its own, so the more flowers my plant has, the more peppers I’ll get.

Consistent care is essential for a good harvest. I’m no expert, but I try my best to get the best results from my plants.

I love bell peppers because they’re a super nutritious food for the immune system. I like to include them in many dishes—this ingredient definitely adds flavor and lots of color.

See you in a new update on my bell pepper plants. On harvest day, I’ll take photos to share my home-grown vegetables with you.

During lockdown I used to plant these, but somehow there was an infestation of mileabug that destroyed the plants. After that I kind of gave up because I no longer have that extra hours in the morning doing that
