The haircut, and a little jolt!

The haircut, and a little jolt!.jpg

Well, with a bit of a cooler change in the weather, the time had come to cut out all the dead parts of this heat damaged bush... with the hopes that it would recover and regrow the bits had wilted and dried out in the harsh summer heat of the past few weeks. Who knows if it will take... or if it will kill the bush completely... but it is worth trying, and if it dies... then it dies, but if it can be gently coaxed back then that would be a much better outcome.

The tricky part was that it was the central stem and most of the middle area that had dried out and died... leaving it bald on the top, but with healthy side growths that seem to have been shielded from the the worst of the direct Sun. So, there is a chance that this bush might end up growing in a way that is more fat and wide, rather than up and bushy. Not ideal for what we had in mind for this row... but again, perhaps it is just a thing that will just take time to slowly heal and regain a semblance of normality!

I was pretty harsh with the cutting, the last time I did something similar to a different diseased bush, it did end up dying... but for the moment, I have high hopes for this one.

... and on a slightly different note. My wife was trenching out some hard clay and rocky earth to get a garden divider in... so that we would have some garden space near the house, and then a rock path between the garden divider and the retaining wall.

... and she struck a cable, which is really close to where our mains electricity is! Only a handful of centimetres down... but due to the location, we thought that we should call the electricty company straight away!

It was a bit of a scare, and the person that came out didn't help with that... chiding us for digging in the area... but after about 2 hours of phone time back to the home base, he was allowed to dig and trace the mains power... which turned out to NOT be this... and it appears that this was just a scrap piece of cable that was left by previous workmen!

Phew... a bit of a scare, but as the electricity guy told us... if it was the real thing, it would be likely you would be a smoking wreck! And then he told us to change our garden edging plans...

⚠️⚠️⚠️ ALERT ⚠️⚠️⚠️

HIVE coin is currently at a critically low liquidity. It is strongly suggested to withdraw your funds while you still can.

Glad that was just a bit of scrap cable, the alternative sounds like an experience that can be done without x_x

Yeah... the cable electricition said that if it was a real one, it would have been really really bad!

I've found that most plants like that are a lot more sturdy than you think. I am always shocked at how well our roses come back each year after I cut them back. Of course, I am not the one you want to listen to for gardening advice!

I'm starting to find the same... I prune back, and my parents-in-law or my mum come around and slash it back much more than I would have every thought possible!

It's crazy. Nature is amazing!

My home is older than me, so the electrical services still run above ground rather than underground like the newer developments. In my province we do have a Dail-before-you-Dig service for anyone wondering if there are unknown lines in any BC preivate or public property. I'm getting anxious for the Spring to come. My Crocus are just beginning to poke out of the ground.

Yeah, we also did a Dial before you dig for the block... the cables are supposed to be at least 60 centimetres below ground and have those warning things in layers above... nothing in this case, and it was crazily shallow! Even the real one was pretty close to the surface!
