Nursing a Bush
A few crazily hot days in January did a real number on one of our favourite bushes. We have three of these and have slowly been growing them as they were gifted to us when we first moved into this house.
Originally, the land around the house was crazily overgrown and we did quite a bit of clearing with the help of our extended family. And these three bushes were the first new things to be replanted.
But even being native plants didn't save this one from being burnt in the 44 degree heat at the start of the year. Most of the plant seems to be okay but that central area is dry... And I've been watering it quite a bit too try and see if it can rebound.
Early signs are promising as the leaves are not brittle dry and the are new green shoots starting to pop up. If it wasn't the central area, I would have pruned them off immediately... But that seems to be a bad idea for such a large area of the middle section.
Thankfully, the other two bushes didn't suffer anywhere near as much. But I'll be sad if this one goes downhill from here.
... And we recently had a little visitor on our patio...a blue tongue lizard... Just hanging out and minding it's own business!

Even with the heat stress, it’s great to see new shoots coming back. Consistent watering helps plants rebound.
Fingers crossed it will rebound... but we have another heatwave incoming!
Dang, that's a big lizard! I don't think I have ever seen one that big outside of a zoo. I hope you can get your plants recovering well. We have a few trees in our basement that we are trying to keep alive until next summer. It's touch and go right now!
Ha... it is a blue tongue, and I think it is a pretty normal size for them. Not quite like a little gecko!

Poor bush x_x hope it bounces back! Now you're going to have to regularly check for the lizard to make sure you don't accidentally injure it or get bit when you're gardening XD
It disappeared soon after taking the photo... I hope it is sticking around, I didn't realise that they were nippy!
Another heatwave coming in... so, I am a bit worried for this bush!
