It has been alternating between storms and really hot weather since the start of the year... which means that the plants that survive the searing heat are doing really well... and the ones that suffered in the heat are really really suffering. I've already posted a bit about our little bush that is struggling... and hopefully, it will recover... but it might take a bit of time, as I think that the central stem is now probably dead, but all the bits around are doing okay... so, it is doing a bush equivalent of a monkish balding top...
But our veggies have fared pretty well, and it was only the lettuce that shriveled up and died. The zucchinis are doing quite nicely, with lots of little edible bits pushing out!

... and we have a little strawberry plant in the front, in a pot that is doing quite well as it is shaded a bit by the patio. The ones in the open sun are looking decidedly worse due to the scorching Sun... and it might be time to make the call to dig those out... but for the moment, this little one at the front is giving us very nice looking fruits!

And so, at the moment, we are able to pick out a little handful of things to flesh out our dinners in the evenings... yesterday, a couple of weirdly fat zucchinis, and a handful of cherry tomatoes which all went straight into a pasta sauce.

The trees have also been a bit battered by the heat and strong winds... Thankfully, nothing huge has come down, but we do have a bit of a regular smaller branch drop form the gumtrees.

... and when the Sun is less fierce, I will have to turn my attention back to the grass... weeding it a bit, and starting prepare the next batch of ground for a new rollout of the San Ana cooch. I'm surprised how well the grass coped with the heat! I was expecting it to be completely browned everywhere!

I burst out laughing so hard at this that I then had to explain why to J when he wandered past in confusion XD
The strawberries and weirdly fat zucchinis and cherry tomatoes look great!
Seems you got a particularly hardy drought resistant grass, probably a good thing XD I would love to roll out some more turf over here (chickens killed all our grass some years back) but I don't think any of us have the patience for that (watering in and avoiding it while it's settling etc and also I am already butting heads really hard with J over grass in general, all he desperately wants to do is pull up all the grass he sees immediately).
Hah... good to know that someone somewhere found that funny!
The grass people did say that this San Ana cooch was difficult to kill... well, at least in comparison to some of the really nice stuff that they were selling. And this stuff only took about a week of watering... and probably only every second day at best because we are slack!
Wow, looking good! Way better than any garden I ever tried to have!
The garden is starting to take shape... there is a small stretch that looks really nice... and then it rapidly drops off into unkempt crap after that!
It will take time I am sure!
How are the wicking beds going this season? I've had the worst run of zucc ever - I've had to even hand pollinate them which I never have before!
So far, it seems like the wicking beds are doing what they need to do... the lettuce didn't survive, and the broccoli got eaten up by caterpillars or snails... we are starting to think about what to do with the spaces that are starting to open up... I'm keen on potatoes to take over completely one bed, we eat those often enough to make it worthwhile.
Oh gosh, not sure whether potatoes good in a wicking bed - might be hard to get ph right? If at first you don't succeed - times of year, using netting, all kinds of things can help and hinder. Definitely a learning curve! Could try beetroot/fennel/cabbage heading toward autumn, but of course those pesky cabbage moths - grrr. They say these days a more crowded bed is better - calendula/marigold for bugs, and plant things in different parts, like a cluster of lettuce in one spot, a cluste r in another, and companion plant it all.

Here in our place, it has been raining continuously. I really feel sorry for the plants that can’t survive the excessive water because they end up rotting. It would be much better to have a greenhouse so the plants can be protected.
Wow, you have strawberries in your garden! In our area, strawberries don’t grow well and can’t survive.
Oh, you have the complete opposite problem!
We had 5 different strawberries... two of the French ones didn't take, and another two were going okay until they got burnt by the heat... and this last one is in the shade, and is going well. So... mixed results on this end as well!
