Some of little pieces of ground cover are growing slowly but steadily... and they are bursting into these little small blooms which attract lots of bees! Our garden is doing its part in providing pollen sources for the bees... there is one other bush in particular that emits a constant hummingn sound!

... and near the back, another wattle... but with a subtle greenish yellow colour. It isn't really a very common colour for these wattles, and for that reason, I really like it. However, it has been overshadowed a lot whilst it was developing... and even with our clearing of the space, it is still surrounded by towering trees which is really inhibiting its growth. Before this year, it was looking like it was about to die.. and I'm still not really sure if it will make it past the next couple of years.

... and the reason for this post? Our second of three kiwi vines (the first female one) has reached the top of the wood structure that it will eventually shade. And so, it was time to add in some training wires to eh wood beams to help it cross the distance and to grow strong enough to support itself. These shoots are still quite fragile, and for some reason, on the female plants seem to curl much more than the male one... I wonder if it is an accident of placement, or if that really is a difference between the two?
So... hopefully the Rosellas and Cockatoos will leave these alone... I've already had to shoo away some chompy birds from the other one.

... at least the bottom is well established... and I've cut some of the sideways growing fronds to help encourage more upwards growth. Will it work? I have no idea, but it seems like the right thing to do!!! That is how we make kids grow taller right? Cut their arms off so they get bigger?

And down the back... another little 5 square metre portion of the San Anna grass added. About another 20 square metres before we finish this section and start extending the other side towards the fence.

The girls have been loving the softer grass and have been out playing on it... so, all in all, a good choice to do the replacement!

Hmmm... this little gum out the front... I guess I should check up to see what these little bubbles are, and whether I need to start treatment or to cut them away... or just ot leave them alone.

Ah yes, you will be waking up the plants soon! Ours are struggling with the heat at the moment...
We have our palms or ferns or whatever they are in the basement downstairs. It will be interesting to see if they survive until next summer.

Did not think of kiwi as a vine - you can always learn something new
All best with your kiwi vines
Thanks, and before these vines, I also thought that kiwi fruit were from trees!
So all you need is a bee box so that one colony has a nice safe hive :D
Yeah... I have friends and colleagues that have bees, and they have said that they are struggling at the moment.
