Small Marigolds Become Big Flowers!

Every flower has its own unique qualities. Roses aren't the only beautiful ones. Do you agree with me? We all have our own unique beauty.

IMG_7452.jpeg

So, back to marigolds. Marigolds don't smell like roses. The original variety smells strongly, like manure. In fact, in my area, the small, smelly marigold variety is called chicken manure.

But everything created on this earth happens for a reason. Marigolds are popularly used by farmers to attract pests, preventing them from attacking the main crop.

Farmers here usually use sticky yellow paper between the plants. The bright color is believed to attract pests. It's similar to how refugia plants and marigolds work. So, marigolds can be used as a natural pest deterrent.

I grew African marigolds from seeds. I planted them in pots. I only planted seven pots at first.

IMG_7489.jpeg
As they grew taller, I pruned their shoots. Here they are after a month of transplanting and cutting the shoots.

I regularly fertilize them with manure. That's all.

I first placed the marigold cuttings in water. Marigold shoots are very easy to grow. So, even though they didn't have roots before, when the cuttings were placed in water, they sprouted very quickly.

Then I transferred the rooted shoots to pots and then directly into the soil.

After two months, the marigolds bloomed simultaneously. Even the stem cuttings from the prunings also bloomed.

So, propagating marigolds from stem cuttings is indeed very fast.

IMG_6431.jpeg
In this round pot, the marigolds initially only had one main branch. Their first flowers were also small.

But as time went on, and in the very hot dry season, temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius, they grew very well.

IMG_7029.jpeg
New branches emerged. And the marigolds I planted in the soil, in particular, immediately developed many branches.

IMG_7448.jpeg
IMG_7241.jpeg
The marigolds, which started out small, actually grew into huge marigolds!

IMG_7455.jpeg

Before they completely wilted, I cut the large marigolds to put in a vase to decorate my desk.

I've always loved cut flowers. Oh, thank you marigolds. Now I have a beautiful supply of cut flowers!

IMG_7449.jpeg

IMG_7451.jpeg

This type of marigold tends to be odorless, so it's not a bother at all when used as a room decoration, or as a desk decoration.

After being cut, these marigolds even become brighter in color. Look at them! Those big, bright marigold petals.

IMG_7453.jpeg

Bright flowers are believed to be good for uplifting and creating a cheerful mood, so they're perfect for placing on my desk. ♥️🤩

IMG_7454.jpeg

Do you agree that this flower is very beautiful? I hope you have a collection of flowers for summer ♥️

Best Regards,

Your marigolds are so big!! I planted marigolds this year but they are small, and some of them have already lost their bloom. I love flowers. They cheer me up. I decided I needed more flowers in the garden so I went over to the local hardware store/nursery and bought two beautiful echinacea plants. They are so gorgeous I'm going to buy more on Monday (store is too crowded on Sunday). I think I'll have a corner of the yard dedicated to these beautiful flowers.

Flowers are believed to enhance feminine energy and bring good luck. 😊 Before I knew about gardening, when I was in college, I set aside money to buy beautiful cut flowers. I put them on my desk. I wrote a novel and it brought many miracles!

Well, you need a special corner for beautiful flowers, where you can gaze at them and relax!

They really look pretty! Nothing is more satisfying than checking the progress of how a plant turns from seeds into such a beauty!

Marigolds are beautiful flowers. In addition to the beauty, they also have religious values and are used in worships and festivals here in Nepal.

Last year my marigolds grew into a massive bush and I had to to keep on pruning them, sadly none of the seeds I sowed this year germinated. Total failure 😔

Did the temperature is warm when you sowing them?
Do they not survive the changing seasons, so you have to grow them from seed?
I think it's easier to propagate them from stem cuttings. Seed is tricky, especially if you're propagating from independent seeds.

Hello my dear, I love the colors of Marigold, they are so beautiful and so alive. I used to plant them in my former garden and they were a big target of the slugs that came in the night and ate up all the leaves.
I am back on Hive after a long absence since 3 years ( since hubby passed). I will be publishing post again. Glad to be here and read your posts. Have a great bew week !

Hello, dear friend @anggreklestari.

What a wonderful job you're doing in your garden; I appreciate the details you share.

While it's true that roses are beautiful, I think every flowering plant has its own unique beauty, even wildflowers.

Beautiful photographs, especially the last one.

Have a lovely Sunday.

Every flower has its own unique charm to captivate its audience. Your marigold is absolutely massive and incredibly beautiful! Mine is about to bloom soon as well, and I honestly can’t wait to see how it turns out. I only hope it can grow to be as grand and stunning as yours. Beautiful! ✨🌻

Make sure their growing medium is fertile. I added goat manure.
If planted directly in the ground, it will be easier for them to reproduce.

Wow, those orange flowers look lovely. So cool that you can multiply these flowers easily. I've successfully multiplied my oxeye plants from seeds for the first time this year.
I'm thinking of collecting some seeds from wild flowers in the neighborhood this year, so I don't have to buy wildflower mix anymore. I hope that will work out.

Nice decoration!

Wow, I just found out that marigold shoots can be propagated from cuttings. Here in Bali, these flowers are needed almost every day for making offerings.

I don't have any marigolds in our garden yet, but I need to plant some because pests have been damaging our crops. They've been eating the leaves, leaving many of our plants badly damaged.

You should increase your basil, shallots, or chives. Also, various bright flowers.
