Space Saving Bonsai Chili and Snail Method /

(edited)

🎂 Happy birthday Hive! I'm happy to start the 7th year on Hive 🎉

For gardeners like me who grow plants in limited space, making good use of space is very important. Both the bonsai chili and the snail method I introduce here are small ideas for growing plants in a compact way.

I have been growing a chili pepper called “Bonsai Chili” for the past few years. Even in a small pot it produces many fruits, so I no longer need to buy the tiny, extremely spicy chilies that I love. They are very hot, but their appearance is sweet and they add a nice touch to the balcony.

The other day I finally removed the dried chilies from the plant that I had harvested whole and hung to dry last autumn, and put them into a jar… I know it's a bit late 😅

For this year’s plants, I sowed the seeds in February. After seeing germination, I started the seedlings using the “snail method,” a space-saving technique I got to know on Instagram last year.

I posted a short video on Instagram last year showing how to make the snail, so feel free to take a look if you're interested. Since I raise seedlings on the windowsill and in the small space on my balcony, this method is really helpful. But don't use fleece like me. It won't separate plants well ... This year I reused a plastic bag in kitchen.

Since the germination rate is quite good and I might end up with extra seedlings. Maybe if I write “BONSAI” on the label at the neighborhood gardening market, they will sell? 😁

Little by little, I would like to increase the things I can provide for myself.

Spring/summer 2026 gardening seasons come! Happy gardening 🌱

The snail method for seedlings is also interesting and very practical.
