I said I never would.
But often, life changes and here I am.

The ashamed owner of a pair of Crocs.
Not only Crocs, but boot Crocs.

This is the first pair of rubber boots I have ever owned in my life, but the "life change" of starting to enjoy being in the garden in Finland, means, being in there when it is very wet and muddy too, and I have already ruined a couple of pairs of older sneakers, that can no longer be worn anywhere else but the garden, in a pinch. They are screwed.
However, after trying a few pairs of gumboots on at the store and hating all of them, the only pair that were passable because they were light enough, were Crocs. There were two problems though.
The price was the bigger issue, because 60€ for a pair of gardening shoes is a bit steep in my opinion. However, the sizing was also an issue. Not because they are women's shoes (I have bought a couple pairs of women's sneakers on sale in the past - they are the same, and have better colours), but because they didn't have my size available. They only supplied up to a 39, and that is a a few sizes too small. Rather than giving in to the heavier boots though, I decided to hold off to see if I could find some online in men's sizes - but apparently, they don't make them for men.
I wonder why??
(I don't really wonder)
However, what they did have is larger women's sizes, and the largest they had would be suitable for me. The best bit of it though, is that they were 50% off, so with delivery, they were only 4€ more expensive than the crappy heavy ones I would have had to have bought. Score! They arrived last night in the mail so I get to test them in the garden this morning.
The plan is to dig a garden bed around half the house where we will plant low ground cover that flowers with white flowers through summer, but has silver leaves the rest of the time. This means it will look nice enough when not in flower. And in the spring, will drop a lot of tulips in between to add colour for the start of the season. It should look nice.
Unlike my Crocs.
By the way - when they arrived I put them on and walked over to my wife who was watering the garden. She looked down at my feet, then looked up into my eyes and while I said "never say never", I could see in her face...
We would never have sex again.

Avoided Crocs much like you, could not find slops (flip-flops), took next best to what I normally get.
Squeaky bloody Crocs had to do only thing available, only around the home would never be seen wearing them anywhere else, must be honest they are reasonable comfortable to wear.
The boots make sure of it for me v- well, maybe to the tip to drop off rubbish... but even then it is a strong maybe.
Very annoying!
lol, can we get a picture when it happens.
When I look at croc's that's exactly what comes to mind, those must be very annoying to wear. Especially if they got wet, like the OOFS I bought a couple years or so back, love those OOFS, still wear them around a lot, but they get wet and it's like you put your life at risk trying to walk in them.
I remember my first rubber boots from my school years. We dug potatoes on peat lands and sometimes my feet sank very deep into the soft soil. My father planted half a hectare of potatoes and it was an unloved job for me then.
And now? I know you like getting out in the garden, but that is a lot of potatoes!
Now my wife has planted 100 times less potatoes than my father did in the old days :)
In Soviet times we handed over potatoes and put the money in the bank, unfortunately most of the money in the bank depreciated in 1991.
I think you should also get industrial gloves, and workwear if possible. If not, wear old or worn clothes while working, I do so :)
Gardening gloves are all I need for most of what I do - and I only wear clothes I can trash - and I have trashed them. People that drive past might think I am homeless :D
At least they look comfortable enough. I will probably never understand how women can walk in heels...But then again I also don't understand why they add fake nails. They just seem not only uncomfortable but also dangerous.
Speaking about this I saw this poll today and wanted to know if you would stop drinking for 10k. I would gladly take that offer. Getting 10k HBD in an instance would be too good to pass on. Hell I would agree not to have sex for a year or two years for another 10k as well. considering that I never had sex so far a year or two more would make no difference to me. Also according to a character from Witcher books:
Hmm, ten thousand to not drink? I am not a big drinker, but like a glass of wine occasionally. Is ten thousand enough? :D
In that poll I was surprised by how many people consider 10k little money. But should they invest it in Hive/HBD they would have great foundation for future wealth.
Jesus fucken Christ...
Not just Crocs, but boot Crocs! I knew you had a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock but fucken boot Crocs?
Anyway, in the spirit of things...I have Crocs too..., normal ones, but mine are camouflage greens so that makes them
coolless fucken weird.Hey - Mine are black - yours have "pretty patterns" on them :D
Haha, there's always a downside to Crocs.

I had no idea Crocs made boots.
Yes, they do appear to be an effective form of birth control via coitus prevention :)
Pre-coitus interuptus.
Well, here in Canada, the Crocs shop, both physical and online, offers all types of footwear, whether for children, women, or men and for the different routines of the day, and also in a variety of colours. I know people who like to walk barefoot in the humidity of the garden (contact with nature).

Have you ever imported anything from outside the EU into the EU?
The taxes aren't worth it. I wanted to buy something that came in a few days too :)
I can do this, when not working!
I have sent packages to Ukraine and Germany and it only took 5 days to reach the recipient. I have used DHL without any problems.
They are very ideal boots for rainy days or places with a lot of humidity, mud or dirt. In the field I used to use this type of boots a lot, but the bigger ones that reach the knee because there is nothing more uncomfortable than having wet feet while working the land, of course it was not that kind of brand but it still fulfilled its function.
Yep. This is what I am thinking in terms of "wet feet" - especially when it is cold. Though, I don't need the knee high ones :)
The boots looks nice and would really fit in to work in the garden.
I can forgive you for the Crocs because you are likely going to only be wearing them when you are out in the garden. If you were galavanting around town in those I might lose a bit of respect for you. I've never jumped on the Crocs bandwagon, I have some knock off ones that I use as shower shoe when we are camping, but I have heard real Crocs are quite comfortable despite the over-priced name slinging.
You would be lined up behind me in the loss of respect for myself!
They are popular here too for the public saunas. When there are hundreds of sweaty people in the same place, it is best to have footwear.
Yes, that is a good idea when you are in situations like that!
Life in the garden really changes us—from loving style to just wanting something practical and comfortable.
At least you found something that works and 50% off is a solid bonus.
50% off made me feel 50% better about buying Crocs. That still isn't a good feeling, but better is better :)
Life really does surprise us occasionally. I said I’d never wear Crocs either… now I own two pairs. 😂 Not the boots, the pair of slippers, and I have to say Crocs make very nice and comfortable slippers. You must try that pair also, and we can also customize it with our own choice. You can choose different colors and patterns and even add charms to make them uniquely yours
Two pairs! You really have fallen off the wagon.
I might look around for some charms - it sounds like my kind of thing :)
Never heard that Crocs have a bad rep. Have not owned a pair though. I guess our garden is not so bad, I am mostly wearing a pair of old Puma leather sneakers that used to look like this when they were new:

Hey! I used to dance in a pair of sneakers like that!
Your engineer is shining through! :D
LOL, totally :)
It is really delightful to read.Your detailed plan for your garden bed sounds lovely and well thought out, adding a touch of beauty to your story. And that moment with your wife, with her knowing glance it perfectly wrap up the humor and warmth in your narrative. Looking forward to updates on your garden and Crocs adventures! Love lots...
There will be lots of garden updates to come, as it is where I am currently spending all of my time. :)
What an experience. When life gives us tangerine, what can we do? I had similar experiences with my rubble shoe, I bought it majorly for the rain since rain has already started here, and all the shoes weren't my side at all. I have tried several legs, but I just had to take one in the end, which is not too comfortable for me to use, but what can i do?
I inherited some that my former admin left us at the bakery. Great shoes for that. Now, they're not so great anymore as they are worn out (one has a hole) and are really slippery. But they served their time.
I mean Birkenstock are not that nicer, different material and more sturdy maybe. but the same idea. Anyway, I never owned real crocs of course, the ones I had were cheap knock offs. Wouldn't buy that brand stuff (except Birkenstock, they have a good rep for quality).
And the most important thing is - they have to be practical. I don't really care about the rest. My daughter just told me today that I could use a change of look. I asked her what my look is. She said my look was very me, and that was the biggest compliment she could give me.
