Delayed, Diverted, and Delighted that Devin Ventured 4500 Miles to Venice❕
It’s been brutal travel for each of us on our separate international journeys, but even so, we’re extraordinarily happy to meet one another for a couplet @buzzparty in Venice for the first time since https://hiveopendays.com #hodalicante.
We’ve arrived ahead of my appearance in Pordenone with the British Clarinet Ensemble at the 6th Annual SiNota International Arts Festival. The travel was rough for both of us, but especially for @bitterirony. He traveled some 4500 miles to show up in person to support me. For those not in long-distance relationships, this is like traveling from New York City to Los Angeles, then half-way back again!! #crazylove
The first few days of every month are the busiest part of half of his IRL job in the app dev world, so he spent most of his flight from Boston working for those first 3000 miles.
Getting across Europe was more of a challenge. There’s no WiFi on UK flights to the continent and clock-ticking work was urgently waiting on the other side.
And yet, we made it here to enjoy a quiet couple of days north of the antique canals to Villa Foscarini Cornaro https://www.villafoscarinicornaro.net/ before the dress rehearsal and Saturday’s headliner performance.
Tonight, our hero is working from the restaurant table, and I’m perfectly content just knowing we’re in the same place. I’m grateful he found a way to make this trip happen and spend a couple of days with me before my concert in Pordenone with the British Clarinet Ensemble to promote our brand new album, “Momentum,” sponsored by Hive’s Creative Work Hour @creativeworkhour.

For those not in long-distance relationships (and basically anybody else), the longest possible distance between any two spots on Earth is about 12,500 miles (20,000 km) - then it is closer if you travel the other way around. So Devin basically traveled one third of that just to support you. How sweet! Or maybe how bitter-irony-sweet? ;)

I believe BA is starting to roll out wifi on all their flights using Starlink. When we went to Argentina last year we could use it for free for messaging but not for surfing. I guess it's going to be available on many airlines very soon. Tech develops so fast nowadays.

I am so jealous of @bitterirony. I am useless at working when traveling. I am too distracted by all the things that come with travel, even when nothing is happening. I need to learn from him one of these days.
