A YEAR AWAY FROM HOME__LOH 283

The idea of living in another country for a year with a different family sounds both exciting and challenging. It would be an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, experience a new culture, and see life from a different perspective.

If I had the chance to participate in an exchange program as an adult, I would choose to live in Japan for one year. Japan has always fascinated me because of its unique blend of tradition and modern technology. I would love to experience daily life there, learn more about the culture, and understand how people balance hard work, discipline, and family values.

During my stay, I would focus on learning the Japanese language, exploring local traditions, and developing new skills. I would also enjoy visiting historical sites, beautiful gardens, and cultural festivals. Most importantly, I would like to learn how people interact within their communities and families.

As for my host family, I imagine a warm and welcoming household that values respect, kindness, and open communication. I would love to be part of a family that enjoys sharing meals together and teaching me about their customs. In return, I would share stories about my own culture, traditions, and way of life.

I picture my surroundings as a peaceful neighborhood filled with friendly people, clean streets, and beautiful scenery. Perhaps there would be a small park nearby where I could take evening walks and reflect on everything I was learning.

Living abroad for a year would not only be about discovering a new country; it would also be a journey of self-discovery. Experiencing a different culture would help me become more adaptable, open-minded, and appreciative of the diversity that exists in our world.

Although leaving family and friends behind for a year would be difficult, I believe the experience would be worth it. The memories, friendships, and lessons learned would stay with me for a lifetime.

If given the opportunity, I would gladly embrace the challenge and adventure of living on exchange in Japan.

Thank you for reading.

Which country would you choose to live in for a year, and why?
