[ENG-SPN] When Stonemasons Were the CEOs of the Way / Cuando los Canteros Eran los CEOs del Camino

We continue this fascinating life adventure, which, at its core, we consider to be the search for the remnants of that fabulous medieval branding that developed over centuries along certain routes and paths. Its narrative and content were transmitted primarily through Romanesque architecture, and just a few kilometers from Grado del Pico, we arrive in a village whose name, Francos, already offers a sufficient clue to intuit what Chesterton defined as the Genesis where every biography must begin.

Following this line of thought, we suppose that the origin of Francos must be sought in that moment of the Reconquista when the once-powerful borders of the Duero River began to weaken. With the advance of the Christian kingdoms of the north, the phenomenon of repopulation also occurred, accompanied by those metaphorical CEOs, who, ultimately, were the indispensable bearers of fantasy and substance: the medieval stonemasons.

Perhaps, in this particular case, the carvers weren't as skilled as those who worked in neighboring Grado del Pico, but they nonetheless erected a church which, though humble in its execution, must have once housed a relic important enough to keep alive the central message that would guide travelers and pilgrims on their journey: the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

Continuamos la fascinante aventura vital, que, en el fondo, consideramos que es la búsqueda de los restos de ese fabuloso branding medieval que se desarrolló durante siglos a lo largo de unas rutas y unos caminos determinados, cuyo relato y contenido se transmitió, principalmente, a través de la arquitectura románica y a pocos kilómetros de distancia de Grado del Pico, recalamos en un pueblo, cuyo nombre, Francos, ya nos ofrece una pista suficiente para intuir lo que Chesterton definiera como el Génesis por donde debe comenzar toda biografía.

Siguiendo esa línea de pensamiento, suponemos que el origen de Francos hay que buscarlo en aquel momento de la Reconquista en el que comenzaron a flaquear las hasta entonces poderosas fronteras del Duero y con el avance de los reinos cristianos del norte, se produjo, también, el fenómeno de la repoblación, que, además, se vio acompañado por esos metafóricos CEOs, que, en definitiva, supusieron aquellos portadores indispensables de fantasía y contenido, que fueron los canteros medievales.

Posiblemente, en este caso en concreto, no fueron tan hábiles tallistas como aquellos otros que laboraron en la vecina Grado del Pico, pero, de cualquier manera, levantaron una iglesia, que, aunque humilde en su ejecución, por su advocación, debió de tener alguna reliquia en el pasado, lo suficientemente importante, como para mantener vivo el mensaje principal que habría de servir de orientación a caminantes y peregrinos en su experiencia vital: la Exaltación de la Santa Cruz.
