If you are passionate about ancient myths, if you enjoy the great mysteries of that "other" history—the kind you won't find in rigid textbooks—and, above all, if you believe there are still places where travel becomes a thrilling cultural adventure, I recommend a spot in the Highlands of Soria that will dazzle you.

It is a place where you will discover the ever-intriguing shadow of enigmatic medieval knights, the Templars—who were true specialists in establishing themselves in locations with unique characteristics. Here, centuries later, legendary myths survive through the Móndidas; their roots transport you back in time to dark, epic episodes, such as the shameful "Tribute of the Hundred Maidens" attributed to the weak-willed King Mauregato.

It is a place where—surprisingly—two opposing philosophies, Christian and pagan, coexist every year within a very special enclosure known as the Recinto del Fuego (Fire Enclosure). Built beside an enigmatic church—which, judging by certain details, may originally have been Romanesque—this site hosts the enigmatic bonfire ceremony and the quintessentially pagan ritual of walking through fire. This ritual and its associated mysteries make San Pedro Manrique a focal point for those fascinated by the occult and the ancestral, especially during the festival of San Juan.
