Another of the most spectacular Romanesque architectural gems in this area of the Sierra de la Demanda is located a few kilometers further on, in a picturesque village whose name, Vizcaínos, evokes those turbulent times of repopulation, offering a clue to the first settlers, from northern Spain, who inhabited it.

This magnificent structure of sacred geometries still retains much of its original harmonious and balanced essence, thanks to the carving and the continuous narrative of its sculptures. We could well attribute it to the same anonymous workshop of itinerant stonemasons who built the fabulous Church of the Assumption in Jaramillo de la Fuente.

Located at the entrance to the village, next to the main road, and dedicated to that thunderous figure dressed as a Nazarene, who was first a soldier and then chose the solitude of a hermit when the Church committed its first political crime in Trier, ordering the beheading of the dissident Priscillian, Saint Martin of Tours, in its contemplation, once again evokes the persistent archetypes of that 'dark night of the soul' that also characterizes the medieval spirit, making us reflect on the masterful nature of a narrative that, in addition to employing styles such as Romanesque and Gothic, endured powerfully for centuries.

Otra de las arquitecturas románicas más espectaculares en esta zona de la Sierra de la Demanda, la localizamos algunos kilómetros más adelante, en un pintoresco pueblo, cuyo nombre, Vizcaínos, ya nos deriva a aquellos tempestuosos tiempos de la repoblación, ofreciéndonos la clave de los primeros colonos, procedentes del norte de España, que lo habitaron.

Magnífica estructura de geometrías sagradas que todavía conserva buena parte de su armónica y equilibrada esencia original, por la talla y el relato continuado de sus esculturas, bien podríamos atribuírsela al mismo y anónimo taller de canteros itinerantes que levantó la fabulosa iglesia de la Asunción de Jaramillo de la Fuente.

Situada a la entrada del pueblo, junto a la carretera general y dedicada a ese trueno vestido de Nazareno, que fue primero militar y luego prefirió la soledad del eremita cuando la Iglesia cometió su primer crimen político en Tréveris, ordenando la decapitación del disidente Prisciliano, San Martín de Tours, en su contemplación, vuelven a asaltarnos los persistentes arquetipos de ‘esa noche oscura del alma’ que caracteriza también al espíritu medieval, haciéndonos pensar en la magistralidad de un relato, que, además de servirse de estilos como el románico y el gótico, perduró con fuerza durante siglos.
