[ENG-SPN] Luarca, Heart of Legends / Luarca, Corazón de Leyendas

Luarca is much more than a poem to beauty, whose verses were written millennia ago by an untamed nature, capable of stirring emotion even in the most hardened heart. It is, to continue the metaphor, that powerful Minotaur who still reigns at the center of a labyrinth riddled with mysterious paths.

An ancient tradition states that it was precisely here, in Luarca, that Don Pelayo landed, bringing with him whatever of vital importance he could have taken from Toledo before the capital of the Visigothic kingdom was conquered by the armies of Musa and Tariq.

It is also said that the Knights Templar had a pilgrims' hospital in Luarca. And to add a bit more intrigue, even the multifaceted king of cosmic horror, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, made Luarca the hometown of the protagonist in his astonishing novel, titled ‘The Mound,’ although he wrote it in collaboration with Zealia Bishop, a writer whom he ironically detested.

Luarca es mucho más que un poema a la belleza, cuyas estrofas fueron escritas hace milenios por una naturaleza indómita, capaz de motivar emoción hasta en el corazón más insensible. Es, sin apartarnos de la metáfora, ese poderoso Minotauro que todavía reina en el centro de un laberinto plagado de senderos misteriosos.

Una antigua tradición, afirma que fue precisamente aquí, en Luarca, donde desembarcó Don Pelayo trayendo consigo aquello de vital importancia –fuera lo que fuera- que pudo sacar de Toledo antes de que la capital del reino visigodo fuera conquistada por los ejércitos de Muza y Tariq.

También se dice que en Luarca los caballeros templarios tuvieron un hospital de peregrinos. Y rizando un poco más el dato, incluso el polifacético rey del terror cósmico, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, hizo de Luarca la ciudad de origen del protagonista de una alucinante novela, que lleva por título ‘El Montículo’, si bien ésta la escribió en colaboración con Zealia Bishop, escritora a la que curiosamente detestaba.
