RE: On Travel | Sunday 10 May 2026

I went to Dhekelia Station this morning to see the new community craft hub volunteers are setting up there. Unfortunately, I couldn't take photos on the base without being seen off the island by lunchtime 😂. I think we're going to see a sculpture park near Agia Napa on Saturday, perhaps I'll have better luck there. There are some amazing churches here, too, we were checking the ones we've seen off a map yesterday. I'm interested in some of the Neolithic sites, so hopefully we'll get to one or two of those. The mosaics are good at Paphos, I think?

I really liked Paphos old town and the sea front there is lovely, took a boat trip along the coast from the old harbour. I had a hangover and wasn’t my best that day, so chose not to swim, the water looked inviting though but my tummy was having other ideas.

Is it Valley of the Kings? Can’t recall the name, should look it up. That was amazing. Truth be told, me and the heat these days aren’t best of buddies, so light clothing and a rucksack full of water with some room for a camera is key. I did shoot a video at the time. Amazing place.

We went with our daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters, so the holiday was mainly beach and hotel pool, which was crowded with some of the worst people. The hotel was nice though, very clean, well air conditioned but had a twitchy alarm system that would go off at three in the morning, forcing an evacuation one night.

We ate out a lot because the hotel food wasn’t particularly exciting. We found a lovely restaurant in old Paphos down by the Marina where we’d go most nights and another place inland that was kind of a rustic Tapas place run by two brothers.

I felt that the hotel setup put us off the whole place and one night we snuck into a very nice hotel along the seafront and decided we’d give that one a go another year.

Anyway @shanibeer don’t get banned from the country!

Keep on sharing your interesting finds. The craft hub reminds of a place in Malta. Another island paradise.

We’re off to Funchal again this year.
