Figs, walnuts, olives to cure an energy hangover

(edited)

Yesterday, I felt pretty overwhelmed and, frankly, a bit depressed. I literally struggled to express myself ( both on here and to @clareartista ) and spend most of the time being quiet, not doing much at all. I struggled to smile and enjoying things proved extremely difficult. I also felt very low on energy, no matter how much ( good food ) I ate. Almost as if I was experiencing a hangover.

Now I have had plenty of hangovers in my life ( from drinking too much alcohol the day/ night before ) but this was a different one.

I guess you could call it an energy hangover.

I suspect that it was caused by a - very exceptional - cup of coffee, some sugary things and a small bit of alcohol, two days earlier, mixed with us having had a visitor for two full days and three nights.

Clare's friend left us yesterday morning, after arriving early Thursday night and even though she has been a pretty easy going guest, it left a mark on me/ us. Both Clare and I are famous for being super attentive and social when the need arises and often have to deal with the consequences ( of giving away too much of our energy ) soon after.

Comunque/ anyhow, we decided to call it a night early, yesterday ( which is nothing new as we mostly rise with the sun and go to bed when the sun sets ) and this morning I woke up a new man, again.

So far, today, apart from having had a very luxurious, savory double breakfast, Clare and I have mostly enjoyed spending time in our garden/ on our land. In fact, whilst I am writing this, Clare is still snipping brambles and moving stones. Opening up yet another path in the area above our old well.

I suspect that she will come in soon though, as it's raining and it is pretty much lunch time. I am already looking forward to a nice ( rice and beans? ) dish.

I just heard some rumbling of thunder. This is supposed to be the rain before the (actual proper) rain that will likely follow tomorrow.

We welcome any amount of it ( although we prefer to keep the inside of our house dry, if possible - see my earlier posts ) as it has been very dry and our land ( 's top soil ) seems pretty parched, even though it is only mid Spring.

Dry or not ( he typed while the rain poured down outside ), most of our trees are hardy and used to extremes. So, as you can see on the pictures, our olives, figs and walnut trees are doing pretty good.

It is, in fact, very exciting to see how well they are doing ( as a consequence of us taking care of them, since last Summer ). And, unlike some people, nature tends to reprocicate abundantly.

It is also extra special to experience our very first Spring out here, on our land. Everything is new and the view around us changes every single day.

I did cut down two of our 80+ olives though as they were growing too close to other ones. They will make for amazing firewood.

Notice the stump in the foreground of the following pic?

Fun fact: freshly sawn olivewood seems to smell like applecider or apple juice

Now let me end this with some pretty pictures of several of our walnut trees and approaching rain clouds.

We will likely have more than enough of this amazing fruit to last us an entire year, after our next harvest coming Autumn.

Sending love from Molise, Italia.

You had a guest? For three nights?

'There were three in a bed and the little one said
"Roll over, roll over"
So they all rolled over and one fell out.........

This is a very insightful and refreshing post! 🌿 The combination of figs, walnuts, and olives is not only natural but also powerful for health—especially with their benefits for digestion and overall wellness. Truly a great reminder that simple foods can be the best medicine 👏

I hear that - guests totally exhaust me as well. I need alone time to recover! Will you be able to make and sell oil from your olives or is that like selling ice to eskimos in ITaly? That's definitely a fun fact about what they smell like. I have a much younger olive tree in my garden (I miss the 20 odd we did have at the old place) and what little olives we have, the parrots have feasted upon. It's not really worth netting and the birds will not be reasoned with.
