Last fall we planted 65 cloves of garlic and over the last few weeks I have been harvesting, curing and processing! I ended up with 62 so I guess 3 never sprouted or maybe got messed with by some animals but I am happy with that amount.
Hopefully it will last us all year and give enough to plant for next year too.
Here is a pic of our garlic patch before it got harvested (next to some potatoes):

Most of the garlic was softneck and they turned out very nice and big, we threw in a few hardneck as well and they came out a lot smaller and also had a lot of irregularities, like growing a second bulb up the neck. One grew a bulb on top and started flowering. It looked very alien TBH:

Here is what was inside when I cut off the scape and opened it???

weird LOL. Here is another example of one growing a double garlic:

I don't think we will grow those hard neck again...
Here is one of the biggest softneck vs. the smallest hardneck:

To cure them I harvested a brushed off the biggest chunks of dirt then laid them on a rack to dry in the wood shed.
After a few weeks I took them out and trimmed the roots and used a dry cloth to brush off as much dirt from the bulb as possible.
I have hung them back up in the woodshed to cure a little more before we bring them inside.
We usually hang them up in mesh bags so they get some airflow (garlic needs to stay dry or else it will sprout!)
Overall I find growing garlic to be pretty easy and low maintenance. We never watered it or did anything special and just let the rain take care of it, definitely reccomend!

I love garlic! I buy it often and use it in cooking, but I’ve never seen it grown in local fields. My grandparents used to grow onions frequently and dried them on the eaves like your garlic…
It definitely does look like something out of an alien movie😂😂
I can't believe it's so easy to grow 😊 garlic has gotten more expensive here, like 5$ for 2 big bulbs so the cost savings are nice too, I can't wait to make some nice garlicky meals 💯
Even your vegetables are a work of alien art. Excellent harvest!
Lol ikr? I tried to google why that would happen and couldn't find anything 🤷
What if I tell you that I never knew this is how onions grow?
Wow
I’m glad I saw this for the first time
Keep it up!
It's not surprising a lot of people never see the food process! I have learned a lot with my garden and always learning more :)
A great and abundant harvest, garlic is very good for your health! I love it! And garlic doubles.... super cool.😃
Already drooling over some garlicky recipes :p
There are many Spanish recipes with garlic, they are made a lot here!
Hi
If I'm being honest, I never thought that post about garlic might be intresting 😅 and here u come, such a suprise, have a good day! because you just made mine with that post, I think we can all agree that usefull knowledge make posts more readable 🤠
Haha thanks I try to make it interesting, it helps when you have mutated produce I guess :D
I have never had hard neck garlic grow like that, so odd indeed. I think homegrown taste so much stronger than store bought. Nice harvest!
Yes it does definitely taste stronger for sure :) I have no idea why all the mutations happened, I did have a lot of double flowered zucchini as well so may something weird in the air 😂
Now, that is odd, I also had some double flowers on the zucchini this summer. First time ever and most of the flowers were male and no female buds on many of my plants.
Wao, this is massive, this is my first time seeing this growing this way. This is a job well-done my friend.. The last time I planted bulb, it did well. Even if I didn't plant too much, I was still able to get something out of it.
Ty we love eating garlic so we planted as much as we had space for 😋
My dad made me like this because he loves it so much and also in food
Qhhh I love garlic 😋 🧄 BTW, how do you keep them ?
!PIZZA
We put them in some thin mesh bags and hang them up in our mud room (it's like a laundry room)!

I love garlic and would have loved to plant and harvest myself but we don't have good soil that could grow them well as yours.
Aww that's a pity, maybe you need to start making compost :)
Hey, what a great crop, only 3 didn't sprout and some look alien. You can take inspiration for your art from them. Or have you already done it?
Mmmm... it seems to me that in addition to all the care you give them in the field, you also sing and play guitar for them. That's why they grow up so happy.
Yes I'm sure the music helps a lot 😂🤗
Very cool, excited to start my garlic journey soon.
Looks like yours did great.
