Homestead, Growing Together, Companion Planting, Every Corner Counts

One of the things I enjoy most about homesteading is making the most of every bit of garden space. Instead of growing just one crop, I like to combine different plants that can thrive together.
In this bed, young pumpkin vines are spreading beneath the maize. The pumpkins will eventually cover the soil, helping to reduce moisture loss and suppress weeds, while the maize continues to grow upward and make use of the vertical space. It's a simple way to produce more food from the same area.
The garden is still developing, and there's plenty of work ahead—watering, weeding, and watching for pests—but seeing healthy green growth is always encouraging. Every stage of the season reminds me that patience and consistency are just as important as planting.
Homesteading isn't only about harvesting. It's about learning from the land, making the best use of available resources, and appreciating the small daily signs of progress.
