Hello everyone, my beautiful hive naija people, it's another beautiful weekend and we are so happy to have you here once again. Itβs another weekend and also, a new year to buzz the hive blockchain even as we connect with ourselves. It just feels good to get everyone together every weekend to talk about random things and just have fun.

As we all know, Sam`s Hangout is focused on promoting the togetherness of the Nigeria brethren through engagement and it's also now concerned of the well being of each and everyone who is part of the engagement. This account was opened to make the engagement more personal and official. You can find the INTRODUCTION POST to read more about the purpose and aim of this account and also do well to follow the account so as to know when a post is made.
Weekend engagement every weekend on Hive was originally created by @ galenkp as he founded the Weekend-Engagement community and initiative. I thought it would be nice to have a weekend engagement too in a Nigerian way for everyone that cares to be a part of it.
Moving forward, Aside chatting and gisting here in the comment section, Feel free to post your weekend activities in the Weekend-Experiences Community.
Please do follow the rules of the community! And check the community for the recent topics
The last time, the topic was βNEW YEAR EXPECTATIONS"

We had 300+ comments in our last hangout. Everyone came together and shared their interesting and honest opinions about the topic. There were jokes, harmless banter, and valuable lessons. Itβs still getting exciting! Letβs see if we can still beat our all time high this weekend again, shall we? π. Please letβs try to make sure to encourage every response to the discussion by leaving a comment. It has always been so nice seeing people who dedicate their time to engaging and sharing their thoughts and ideas with us, I want to appreciate you all for the consistency, quality engagement and your efforts, let's keep them coming. Special thanks to everyone who makes this hangout possible.

Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing βJAPA DREAMSβ. There are only few of us that donβt wish to japa yet. Despite how hard it is to relocate overseas, we still hear of people who are moving out every now and then.
But hereβs the question!
Our hangout is still in mind and plans are still forming to make it a reality. Check out our last post to stay updated.Hereβs a link to the post. Thanks to everyone that has contributed and is contributing towards the success of this hangout. Keep supporting the plans as we are making good progress.

This topic is a very important one for me, even though I become sad whenever I think of my response to similar questions. I remember growing up and only wishing to travel to other countries for vacations and higher studies like a masters. I never wished to relocate out of Nigeria because I felt strongly connected to my roots, and I was less open-minded. But right now, my mindset has shifted.
It is now my ultimate dream to permanently relocate from this country because that is my top guarantee for a better and more peaceful life. My top spots right now are U.S and Canada. I choose U.S because it's the equivalent of Lagos, the opportunities are endless, except that you're more rewarded for your hardwork than anywhere else. I also choose Canada because it's easier to get permanent residence and eventually citizenship. Also, it's a much safer country and there's nothing I desire more than being in a working country devoid of anyhowness. I do hope my dreams come true.π₯°
Like are we twin in spirit? So on point dear Yechee but you got me with how you switched from connecting to your roots to having ultimate dream to permanently relocate. I couldn't resist the smile
This country has diminished so many dreams aswear
We must be o, this one we're thinking alike.π My dear, the switch is the effect of living in a country that doesn't value you and the lives of those you live. So, I'd rather go to a place that offers me that.
In all, I hope we never give up on our dreams while still here.
I hope so for you, too. Relocating to another country isn't a bad idea, once you have got all it takes to go there and based on your reasons, too.
Exactly. It's an amazing idea at the point where the country I'm in offers little to nothing in exchange for my hard work. Thank you for the encouragement.
Na everybody like us and Canada π€£ππ.

Hello everyone
Happy weekend my people
@obifavvy carry your flat self and come here. Mtchw!
Huhm...
Sha leave space for us π
Na me you dey call flat selfπ
I'm Venezuelan, friend. Leaving my country wasn't my dream, but now Venezuelans are scattered all over the world; we move almost daily.
Oh my and they're people from my country who wish to visit there someday.
I donβt plan on ever relocating. However, I plan on furthering my studies somewhere out there, preferred country is not coming to mind currently. Iβll also retire with my husband one day and we will travel a lot. But my base is here and always will be. However, I plan to give my children more than Nigeria can ever hope to offer.
How about moving to Paris with me π
With that your dry-chested broke boyfriend? No, thank you. That one na frying pan to fire.

Hello Deraπ₯°
I know a friend who will always say this and what amazes me is that he did his masters in the US and can always travel, but choose to run a successful business in Nigeria.
I'm yet to understand him, because if I have that opportunity , I wouldn't want to stay back in Nigeria.
This is also good, it shows that you appreciate your root and love your country, regardless.
I also plan on giving my children more than Nigeria can ever offer and I pray God makes this possible for us.
Thanks for sharing, Dera
Yeah. I get. The thing is, running wonβt always solve the problem. Thereβs not as much opportunities or βmaking money quickβ techniques there as made believe. You can be in Nigeria and snag a remote job that pays in any currency. It makes life easier. Leaving Nigeria subjects you to their living conditions and policies: Taxes, Monthly bills, credit cards (which is not always a good thing) and time demand.
I and my partner have looked at this and it was better to just snag a remote job. Donβt earn in Naira. As for my kids, I donβt want them to ever forget their roots and they are the solid reason I decided to continue to stay here. But, in terms of education, I will make sure they have options and lots of opportunities.
Life outside of Nigeria is promising but only if you have the backbone to work through without connections, lots of uncertainty and many jobs. You have to work at-least three different jobs to be able to live comfortably (except corporate which you would need a handful of experience and recommendations to get).
You will know whales by their statement. Nigeria is so cool too me too, just that my income here isn't working,so I want to japa get money and come back to be mama olowo π
Not really a whale statement. Itβs research. Like I told someone just now, if you are planning to leave based on your own strength with no constant source of provision (say a family or connection or sort), youβre setting yourself up for a long time of hardship especially if youβd be working odd jobs which is what most Nigerians start with as corporate and official positions need years of experience and plenty recommendations. Youβd need to be working at least three jobs to even live comfortably because unlike Nigeria, you wonβt be exempted from taxes and monthly bills. Their monthly bills are not cheap if you donβt make enough even if they pay by the hour. These are things many Nigerians fail to factor in. No research, plan or strategy. They just dive in head first and then begin to wither by the time they reach those heights or they just blame God.
If I have the privilege to japa I'm not staying o. Staying kwa? Though I wish to japa o but not like I'm desperate and the place I wish to go is either US, UK or Canada. My reason for USA is because I want to dare Trump to eat a plate of food first before me π. Jokes apart, to me these places are my dream places from the onset coupled with the fact that many opportunities to make it lies there based on them say o cos I never go there before but at least friends who have been able to japa haven't complained of coming back home
Lol to dare trump. Mine I wish to japa so many places outside the country
Talented Kenny π₯°
I love the part where you said you aren't desperate, being desperate isn't a good thing.
Your talent will be appreciated when you finally japa this japa ππ
Vanilove you gettttt..... The japa will now be japaing
You see that desperate you mentioned was what got me ,like....I used to tell someone ,I wishes to do that, I wished to do this ,but I'm not desperate, I believe in steps and I believe in what God has for me
And that's the key thing, believing in your trials towards achieving what you want which is far better from being desperate
Momma....
If you sha japa before, just make sure to clear spaces down for me o π.
It's s good one though, even me, if d opportunity comes to zoom off, off I go o... ππ
πππ
Even if there's no space, I'll lap you π
Are we to go off? Yes we go!
Is he to go up? Up you go!

I have never even had the dream of relocating at all. Lol.
I love Nigeria and it is only God who knows what He has planned for me. I believe He has good plans for me; not of evil. But I donβt plan relocating to any country, except for vacations, on a visit or for work. But who knows? My husband might decide we relocate. I wonβt refuse him π
What if your husband is a white man like this , Just jokingπ
Despise, all the drama going on in this country, it's good to know some persons still love Nigeria.
Wishing you an amazing weekend. Hope I'm not late.π
Happy Weekend, Fave π€
Same here.
In as much as I love Nigeria, I would have love to Japa, make money come back invest it here, then travel for either vacation, study leave etc. Nigeria sweet we no know.
The only country you can urinate anywhere without any problem.
Uk , US, Canada dey my mind.
Lolz
At the end of the day, we still want to come back here and invest, because it's our home and we can't take away that fact.
Yes oooo, we can only be a citizen of one country by birth. Home is Home
That urinate part got me π€£ππ€£π€£...
Omo, Nigeria is sweet o, it's more sweeter with money though
every country has its own charms
I have always wished to japa not for anything but for greener pasture, for a better income but whenever I'm satisfied with my worth, I love Nigeria and I will always come back to Nigeria. I love Nigeria fun, not much restricted like I do hear about other countries, when you are wealthy in Nigeria, Nigeria is so sweet. I want to japa to get money Ni, after money, Nigeria na my base of enjoyment
I believe this is the dream of many, just go, have money, then come back and settle.
I love that, and if u ever have the opportunity too, omo, I'm off o
Omo I no go lie for lie for Una, If I see road I go jakpa for this country because who no go like better thing. On a normal my country is good for enjoyment , assuming no be corruption wey full everywhere, this country good to stay. And the country I want to go is NewZealand, Canada and US. The reason why I choose NewZealand is that is the country to see the new day lol no laugh me π€£π€£π€£ but is true now and another thing is that it has unique wildlife. But if I dey Okay with what I here I will like stay in this country and be going for vacation their because this our country too sweet to enjoy your wealth but you know what let me make way for others to talk their mind before I finish it πππ
What a funny babe.π This is the first time I've seen someone on hive mention New Zealand as a destination. It's a very beautiful place with good wages and working systems. It's relatively cheaper to get into the country too than others. I hope you get the opportunity you're looking for someday.π
Awww thanks so much dear I just need a cool place to stay but I hope one day I will jakpa as I have been jakparing in my dream, I want it to come true.

Hmmm this topic, even if I wish to japa someday, yeah I'm not rushing it , I want to to be at a very convenient time and also not when I will struggle for it , because me I don't have strength for wahala. .if any Japa plan should come up later , it will be that I am very okay to move and not get stranded.
@cohlson @goldenproject how you see am?
Hello Everyone!!
I once had a big dream of Japa to abroad, back then i was very desperate becasue most times i saw my Dads younger brother pictures especially when he does video and stuff like that the different is very clear, he even owns 2 Apartment in United state. He made me understand a lot about abroad, and based on my observations and advice he gave me, its better to be-based in nigeria a and maybe travel abroad for tourism and for education, that having a business in our country can really be helpful especially seeing Nigeria is a Developing country, having a successful business can give you opportunity to travel to any country you are comfortable with as far it goes in line with your business and that most times the embassy here gives visa opportunities for business owners.
My plan now in my country is to Land a foreign job or a high paying job, since i am a young starter, i have a friend here that earns $1250 Every two weeks, some collects contracts of Developing websites or Designing site. Having this kind job can really give capital for business. This is all i need now.
I currently write busienss i feel i can venture into and budget i need to start them up and also join community, presently i have 4 Startups i need to venture into.
If you looking for comfort of regular hustles you can travel abroad but chasing after big dreams of Business and startups, my country is a good start for me. So my japa will only be for experience, tourism or education to improve my knowledge. But currently i dont have that in mind even though the opportunity is right in front of me.
@afrikens @marsdave @storygoddess
Hmmmmm this is actually enlightening.... Japa when you can o my brother my brother, is a koleosho my brother
π π€ͺπ€ͺπ
Omo, this is an eye opener o.
It's alright though...but I will suggest that you jaoa if there's the opportunity o abeg π«£, you could probably make some money over there to startup something here.
So, you mean you have the opportunity to leave right now, but you are not, because your uncle that is still over there and has not returned to come and live in the current Nigeria is telling you to stay back and you are listening to him? Lol. Okay ooo. There's nothing eye opening about this though. It is plainly a deceit. In a country where you could be in your room and kidnappers would knock on your door to take you to the bush for ransom?
Or a country where you could lose your child because of the negligence of an ansiotheologist supposedly at the top 1% hospital like Chimamanda? Or where you could lose your friends to bad roads on the first day of entering Nigeria like Anthony Joshua? Whoever is telling to stay back and is not here, actually doesn't like you. If he so likes Nigeria a lot, he should come back and live our current situation, then, see if his opinions will still remain the same.
Well, if you have the opportunity to and you are not using it, you can give it to me. Trust me to use it well, and I will give you a feedback too.
Happy Sunday to y'all ππ
