BIG BEARS in my yard and some garden updates

VideoCapture_20250622-130753.jpg

A few weeks ago I posted about two bear cubs that passed through the yard but over the last few weeks we have had a big MAMA bear stop by twice. She knocked over our compost barrel which is mostly full of weeds with some coffee grounds. Thankfully both times she walked away and didn't find anything appetizing!

Here are the two videos, this girl is huuuuge, just look at her paws :

The garden feels like it has been coming along very slowly this year but things are finally starting to pick up. We had a very weird May with some nice warm days but lots of cold and overcast so a lot of our plants seem to be growing slowly. I am finally getting pea flowers so that's promising!

I am calling this our miracle tree, it's a big stick we found in the woods and stuck in the garden last year to help stake up a plant and it has started growing leaves LOL:

The bad news is the ticks have been a big problem this year, we have started putting them in a jar to torture them (not really but I would like to ๐Ÿ˜‚) I'm not sure why they are so bad this year but I really hate these little shits:

As always the wasps keep trying to make nests all over, last year they made one in our internet box by the front door, this year they are trying various areas around our patio:

The Poets Narcissus bloomed but it's so brief they are already dying back:

We continue to have massive amounts of chives, oregano and parsley. We are stuffing herbs into every meal we can:

Hopefully in a month I will have better garden progress, currently the tomatoes, squash, cucumber, beans etc are just starting to grow, wish me luck :)

It's fascinating how you live surrounded by wonderful nature, taking advantage of everything it has to offer. I've seen your posts about bears, and wow, they're scary, but at the same time so beautiful. And I can understand about the ticks ๐Ÿ˜‚ Here we have lots of mosquitoes, they're annoying, biting you day and night. I bought one of those rackets that gives them little electric shocks and kills them that way, ha ha ha, it sounds cruel, ๐Ÿ™„ but it's necessary!

I would love one of those rackets, the mosquitoes here are brutal too, I kill on sight lol! Even worse are the black flies, one got my hand and took a big chunk and its so itchy ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Wow, I imagine it's important to get rid of those insects, because apart from being annoying, they spread disease. You should get one of these racket things; they sell them in Chinese supermarkets around here.

Thank goodness the mother bear moved away, she didn't find anything to eat... she's huge!

I love how your garden is progressing, the flowers, the aromatic herbs... and well, the wasps... when I had my garden, they did the same thing.

I guess wasps are probably beneficial to the ecosystem somehow so we need to learn to live with them ๐Ÿ˜‚

They're kind of like bees... they pollinate, so let's live with them!

my current outsmarting with a weasel (my best guess as it was hanging out upside down from a hole in the roof and hissing at me in the dark :) ) does not look as bad as meeting a bear in the yard :D

Funny that you say that, I saw a weasel for the first time ever about a month ago, it ran under my patio and came out with a dead mouse!

i think i saw it few times in my life, but never this close and this pissed off :D

nothing against them, except them not living in my roof partying at night :) first night it weirded me out :)

At the moment it looks like it is not a fan of the led light i am putting there :)
