Storks of Alcalá de Henares, Madrid.

Hello my feathered friends,

Is the story of the stork bringing the baby true? That was the first thing I tough of when I saw this beauty fly around. than quickly the sadness hit me and I realized that she was carrying a plastic bag for her nest. I don't know, maybe it is very good nesting material but how is it that we are this far that animals are using this shit instead of the natural building materials!

We are in the city of Alcalá de Henares, a city within the Community of Madrid and it is well known because of its stork population. It is one of the main tourist attractions in this region. The community is doing a lot to protect these animals. They are providing them sticks to build their nests, they look carefully to see if their nests are not causing danger and create spaces on buildings to create more nests. And one of those buildings is the local church. In this picture alone are 4 nests. And I thought I counted five others on the other side. So cool.

And they are welcome on the university building to. they have a nice lookout point on top of the cross and in the back you see one of the nests.

Many tourists walking around this area. And I made a nice street photo of this priest walking around.

Street artists of Alcalá do love them as a subject to. First I thought they painted a face on this broken wall. But these are strategically placed storks.

And some of those trees are completely packed full of stork nests.

And this one fling above the beautiful blossom of this tree.

So if you are visiting Madrid and you like your birds, I advise you to visit Alcalá de Henares to. It is a very nice old town full of history and beautiful buildings.
