Reading your lines and watching the photos reminded me of the road trip to Portugal that we took 2 years ago, around similar dates... Christmas and New Year are a perfect time for seeing new places as everything is even more beautiful than usual... Maybe it's kind of fake, but it gets engraved in our brains for a longer time...
And travelling by train has its own perks... Yes, they can be late and slow, but it pays off for the views!

We had some great views, especially through the mountains. Normally we might just be hanging around at home at this time of year, but we got to see a lot more this time. I'm sure we'll be doing more train trips.
