They were borderline profit making and the fuel increases is what made them become bankrupt. They had sold tickets ahead of time and they did not cover the fuel increases so they were screwed and most in the industry knew this a week before they shut down. Funny as it did the lenders of the planes a big favor as they could now lease out the NEO engines to other airlines as they were in huge demand. The planes got scrapped yet the engines became the rental income.
